Back to School, Back to Routine: Time to Get the House in Order

The summer holidays are coming to an end. Lunchboxes are being dug out of the back of cupboards, school shoes are (hopefully) still the right size, and suddenly everyone’s trying to remember what day PE is on.

There’s something about September that feels like a fresh start – a bit like New Year, but with fewer fireworks and more labelling of jumpers.

Once the house is quiet again and the routine settles back in, it’s actually the perfect time to get on top of a few things at home too.

You’ve survived the chaos of summer – the garden hose has worked overtime, the bathroom’s been in constant use, and you’ve probably run the washing machine more times than you’d care to count. Now’s a good moment to breathe… and maybe give your home a little TLC too.

Here are a few things worth checking off the list:

• Book your boiler service before the cold sets in
  It might still feel mild outside, but chilly mornings are just around the corner. Getting your boiler serviced now means you’ll avoid the autumn rush (and the “why is there no heating?” panic).

• Tackle any niggly plumbing problems
  That dripping tap you’ve been ignoring? The shower that takes forever to warm up? Small things can quickly become big problems once the weather turns.

• Thinking about a bathroom refresh?
  September’s a great time to plan it – especially if you want the work done before Christmas. Fewer interruptions, quicker turnaround, and one less thing to think about come winter.
